On the subject of Gerry Anderson and SF toys and saving humanity, Lizbeth Myles of Telefantasy Time Jump has written a comic based on Project SWORD, a TV series Anderson produced toys and comics for but never made the show.

Gerry Anderson's Doctor Who - a thought exercise

As a result of seeing an ad for the official Gerry Anderson channel on YT and Fireball XL5 already featuring on Telefantasy Time Jump, and looking for connections of which there are a few, got to thinking what Gerry Anderson getting to produce Doctor Who would have looked like.

Probably his live-action era, UFO and Space: 1999 and others (so we know what his Star Trek would look like) or later in the Wilderness Years.

I’d imagine lots of monsters, spaceships and miniature sets that get destroyed in great detail.

Maybe something like the UNIT era but with more futuristic and merchandisable vehicles.

But maybe with some of the Thunderbirds focus on rescue fiction in amongst alien invasions like Captain Scarlet and more?

Various sites have photos of a variety of inevitable stylised pop culture ornaments, a costume from Her Universe, and a 12” scale figure from Character Options. No sign of anything for their classic 5” scale line, or their Star Wars style 3.75” scale.

Apparently we’re also getting Bill in 5” scale this summer, among various new and variant figures for it. In the UK they’re exclusive to B&M. So I have to find one of those, I guess.

Edit several weeks later: apparently you can get Bill from Amazon. If she’s in stock.

The Size Of The Miniatures

Dalek miniatures for Time Vortex

The plastic Daleks for Time Vortex, the Miniatures Game, previewed here.

Hm. Well, they look like nice Time War era Daleks. And snap together is handier than needing glue, and the eyestalk attached to the base should be stronger than one attached to the head. But compared to the 80s Citadel four-part versions who had separate heads (and a choice of plunger or claw) making a multi-part figure with no posing options seems like a step back, and the separate eyestalk means moving the head around would involve cutting all three parts.

Totally Not Doctor Who Miniatures

Before Warlord Games produced official Doctor Who miniatures a number of mostly British companies produced various Totally Not Doctor Who miniatures, of various Doctors, companions, enemies and a few monsters. These have mostly gone away in the last couple months, which is a shame as modern-day civilian type miniatures were useful beyond their intended Whovian purposes.

(And they were mostly 28mm scale while the new Warlord figures are 33mm. Which is also a shame, as there are a lot more 28mm lines around including Warlord’s own historical ranges, which would have made it easy to have the TARDIS land in various eras...)

A different Doctor Who miniatures game?

Announced in October, now apparently in pre-orders, Time Of The Daleks from Gale Force Nine (makers of D&D boardgames, Star Trek Ascendancy and Firefly: The Game) “contains highly detailed miniatures representing the Daleks and six of the regenerations of the Doctor and a host of additional miniatures”...

No images of figures or other components yet, or indications of scale.

Which six? I would guess the four modern ones and two more... Eight and War?
