An artist imagines an America that never quite United its States.
A really thorough example, up to and including coinage. If your time travellers find a five franc note from the Republic of Louisiana in their change, they might realise that something has gone a bit wrong.
Cool concept, excellent work on the coins and notes, but that map - bah! New York should have expanded west into Michigan. Or taken over Pennsylvania, at least! Hrmf.
ReplyDeletePresumably they made early alliances with fellow colonies and stuck to them. (I'm surprised it isn't still New Amsterdam.)
DeleteI just want the Empire State to be an actual empire. Is that so wrong? ::sniff:: As for New Amsterdam, looks like the point of divergence is about 100 years too late; a surviving New Netherlands (alongside French 'New England', an English Mid-Atlantic/Greater Virginia and Spanish Florida and Georgia) would be a fun setting, tho'.
ReplyDelete"The ambassador for Roanoke declined to comment..."
DeleteFoo. The other day, I saw a good interview with the director of Chronicle that ties into Roanoke, but now I can't find it again.
